The weath\u00ader was sun\u00adny and clear and in the 80\u2019s and the scenery won\u00adder\u00adful. A bill\u00adboard near the entrance to the park described this area as the \u201cAmer\u00adi\u00adcan Alps\u201d. Hav\u00ading dri\u00adven through it I can none but&nbsp;agree.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ashecoutts.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/20110706-095636.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" title=\"North Cas\u00adcades National Park -- A beautiful day for a spectacular drive.\" src=\"http:\/\/ashecoutts.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/20110706-095636.jpg\" alt width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After leav\u00ading the park and pass\u00ading east of the cas\u00adcades I drove for sev\u00ader\u00adal hours along\u00adside the mighty Colum\u00adbia Riv\u00ader, what a treat. Decades ago on a bicy\u00adcle adven\u00adture I sought out the source of the Colum\u00adbia in Cana\u00adda and camped overnight there.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight I am holed up in Ellens\u00adburg, Wash\u00ading\u00adton, the home of Cen\u00adtral Wash\u00ading\u00adton Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty. It was grant\u00aded the site of <span class=\"caps\">CWU<\/span> in 1891 as a con\u00adso\u00adla\u00adtion prize when Ellens\u00adburg lost out to Olympia as Wash\u00ading\u00adton\u2019s cap\u00adi\u00adtal.
