In the are\u00adna itself I dis\u00adcov\u00adered a new (to me) rodeo event, \u201cOpen Ranch Class\u201d. Below is a mon\u00adtage show\u00ading some of today\u2019s teams in action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ashecoutts.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/2011-08-06__FiestaRodeo_OpenRanchClass_1500-1006.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1224\" title=\"Upper left: Starting the process. There is a fenced chan\u00adnel thru the mid\u00addle of this bar\u00adri\u00ader (image #1). 36 cows are inside this 40% area divid\u00aded into groups of three and so numbered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To com\u00admence the event two rid\u00aders enter this 40% area thru the chan\u00adnel (image #1) and are simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adous\u00adly giv\u00aden a num\u00adber from the announc\u00ader. Their goal is to cull out the three cows with the giv\u00aden num\u00adber into the 60% emp\u00adty space of the are\u00adna with\u00adout let\u00adting any oth\u00ader cows out of the 40% space (images 2 <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span> 3). Next the two rid\u00aders have to dri\u00adve only two of the three cows back to the herd in the 40% area, open the gate to a pen in the far east end of the 60% are\u00adna and dri\u00adve the one remain\u00ading cow into the pen, ride in them\u00adselves, and close and lock the gate. To stop the clock the two rid\u00aders then have only three trys to las\u00adso the cow, one over the head and the oth\u00ader the hind leg or legs (image 4).<\/p>\n<p>Lots of rid\u00ading skill, horse train\u00ading, and team\u00adwork are need\u00aded as well as some luck with hav\u00ading cows behave as wished. All in all very fun and inter\u00adest\u00ading to watch.
