I thought it might have been a poor match between chain and cogs. <strong><em>But no!<\/em><\/strong> It was a dis\u00aden\u00adgaged brain at the time of instal\u00adla\u00adtion. I\u2019d thread\u00aded the chain out\u00adside the met\u00adal exten\u00adsion between the two derailleur pul\u00adleys such that every ped\u00adal stroke was grind\u00ading it away. The image shows what\u2019s left after 856 miles of grind\u00ading. Click\u00ading on the image will show bet\u00adter details of my mis\u00adtake. In the right, 2005, image the red arrow points out the chain mis\u00adaligned over the then undam\u00adaged exten\u00adsion.
