Alas, the cir\u00adcu\u00adlar 3\/4\u2033 win\u00addow in the crankcase to mon\u00adi\u00adtor the \u201cH\u201cigh and \u201cL\u201cow lev\u00adels was com\u00adplete\u00adly emp\u00adty. So I found and rode to a cycle shop and added a quart of oil. Right up to the \u201cH\u201cigh mark, great. I lat\u00ader added 12 more ounces in Ashland.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arriv\u00ading home I put the bike on its cen\u00adter stand for the first time since leav\u00ading. <em><strong><span class=\"caps\">YIKES<\/span>!<\/strong><\/em> The mon\u00adi\u00adtor\u00ading win\u00addow was com\u00adplete\u00adly full, way above the \u201cH\u201cigh mark. How far above? I could not tell. I emailed this obser\u00adva\u00adtion to friend Jeff and he respond\u00aded thus: <em>\u201cWhen you are check\u00ading the oil lev\u00adel, are you sure the bike is lev\u00adel? I don\u2019t think you can check it on the side-stand. It needs to be checked on the cen\u00adter stand. Anoth\u00ader thing: I\u2019ve heard, for small engines, too much oil is way more dan\u00adger\u00adous than not enough oil. You might want to con\u00adsid\u00ader drain\u00ading it to the right&nbsp;level.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yes\u00adter\u00adday I decid\u00aded to fol\u00adlow Jef\u00adf\u2019s advice and remove the extra oil. It turns out that the nice skid plate I added under the engine goes not allow for a grace\u00adful reduc\u00adtion of oil quan\u00adti\u00adty. So I elect\u00aded to try and siphon out the extra oil and went off to an auto parts store and pur\u00adchased three feet of 1\/4\u2033 fuel hose. Return\u00ading home I got a nice quart pan (the yel\u00adlow one above) and went at it. Start\u00ading a siphon with 10\u201340 oil is some\u00adwhat dif\u00adfer\u00adent than with gaso\u00adline or&nbsp;water&nbsp;\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>It took me about five tries to get it flow\u00ading to the yel\u00adlow pan along with the usu\u00adal treat of some flu\u00adid in my mouth. 10\u201340 oil also flows <span class=\"caps\">MUCH<\/span> slow\u00ader than gas or water, at first I did not think it was flow\u00ading at all. But 25 or 30 min\u00adutes lat\u00ader the yel\u00adlow pan was full, yet there was no change in the mon\u00adi\u00adtor\u00ading win\u00addow so I employed pan #2. After anoth\u00ader 15 min\u00adutes the lev\u00adel in the win\u00addow was between the \u201cH\u201cigh and \u201cL\u201cow lev\u00adels so I stopped the siphon and poured oil care\u00adful\u00adly back into the bike until the lev\u00adel was right at the \u201cH\u201cigh mark.<\/p>\n<p>After fin\u00adish\u00ading up I took the bike off the cen\u00adter stand and put it on the side stand. The mon\u00adi\u00adtor\u00ading oil win\u00addow was com\u00adplete\u00adly emp\u00adty, just like in Bend. And how much oil did I end up remov\u00ading from the bike? As near as I could tell the total of the amounts I put in in Bend and Ash\u00adland.
