At the Winnedumah hotel break\u00adfast this morn\u00ading I was chat\u00adting with a cou\u00adple from San Diego. Inter\u00adest\u00ading\u00adly enough the man of the cou\u00adple turned out to be best friends with Scott Allen when they were at Poway High School togeth\u00ader. I made a small record\u00ading of Paul with my iPhone so I could pass it along to Scott, which I did lat\u00ader in the week, it was all very fun.<\/p>\n

After break\u00adfast and load\u00ading up of the Suzu\u00adki I rode up the due west road to Onion Val\u00adley (that\u2019s me in the upper left start\u00ading up). I have only been to there a cou\u00adple of oth\u00ader times, both in the 70s. The first one was when I walked out from the trip up the John Muir Trail to pick up a food par\u00adcel Car\u00adol and I had mailed our\u00adselves to the Onion Val\u00adley Ranger Sta\u00adtion. The oth\u00ader was a few years lat\u00ader when best friend Dave and I parked in Onion Val\u00adley and hiked up over Kearsarge Pass and into the Rae Lakes basin in late Octo\u00adber. It was a beau\u00adti\u00adful ride up to the val\u00adley and back down to Inde\u00adpen\u00addence before head\u00ading north on 395.<\/p>\n

It was up to Bish\u00adop for a late break\u00adfast then by the Millpond Recre\u00adation Area where we all used to attend the annu\u00adal Sep\u00adtem\u00adber music fes\u00adti\u00adval (which is still hap\u00adpen\u00ading in two weeks). Favorite bicy\u00adcling coun\u00adtry all around this area from those years. Up the road along the low\u00ader rock creek to Tom\u2019s Place for a stop and shop then UP<\/span> the Rock Creek Road to the end for a won\u00adder\u00adful six mile hike.<\/p>\n

After the hike I rode over and reserved camp\u00adsite #17 in the camp\u00adground adjoin\u00ading Rock Creek Lake then<\/em> found out that the clos\u00adest din\u00adner was at Tom\u2019s Place, The \u201cPie in the Sky\u201d restau\u00adrant across the lake was not<\/em><\/strong> open for din\u00adner. Oh well, too hun\u00adgry to do much inner brain bar\u00adgain\u00ading so it was down the 13 miles to Tom\u2019s. As I was eat\u00ading I debat\u00aded whether to for\u00adgo the $10 deposit I\u2019d paid for #17 and stay in the low\u00ader (and poten\u00adtial\u00adly much warmer) camp\u00adground 1\/4 mile from Tom\u2019s. But I decid\u00aded I had not been camp\u00ading in the high coun\u00adtry for a long time so, well fed and con\u00adtent, I enjoyed the 13 miles back up the moun\u00adtain, set up my camp and wan\u00addered around the lake for awhile as the day was ending.<\/p>\n
